Friday started cool Mike
arrived first and staked out a pitch for us, followed a little
later by Di & Mike, over the next few hours everybody who was
camping arrived and settled in though some were in need of medicinal sloe
gin.
Saturday morning our display dance spot was early at 10:20am where
we danced Milnrow & Lostock Junction after which we moved on to The Swan and
joined with several other sides taking turns to Dance. During the day we moved around
the different dance spots enjoying the spectacle of watching different
styles of morris dancing, also taking our turn at performing a range of our
dances.

The final dance of the day was a
mass dance to the tune of Bluebells of Scotland, when we danced the Ashton,
as usual it degenerated into a giant conga involving all the sides taking
part. After tea and cakes at the campsite we cooked a joint supper during
which Judy & Graham were presented with a plant for their wedding
anniversary. A glass or two of Champagne was drunk in honour of the
occasion, also celebrated was Sarah's son Michael's birthday. He is finally
a teenager! during the evening we went our separate ways, some to the concert & some to sessions in the pubs.

Sunday
started at noon with the traditional Upton procession, we were near the back
& danced Whitby Shindig to the usual tunes. When we arrived at the end the
other sides had formed a tunnel which we danced through, we started dancing
at the Swan where among other sides we met with Black Adder. After several
dances we decided to dance a joint Windmills which they had taught us several
years ago - quite spectacular! our final official dance spot was at 5:40pm
after which most sides made their way home. Tracey, Martin, Di & Mike stayed
over night to see the evening concert. All in all a very enjoyable festival.
